The OAK Wedding Difference

If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times. . .We. Love. Weddings. And over the past 5 years, we have grown and adapted the OAK wedding planning process into something that we hope to continue to share with brides for years to come. We strive to be “different” and to make a difference with each wedding. How? Glad you asked! I’d love to share. . .

Our most popular wedding package option is our OAK Wedding Option. The brides who choose this package have direct contact with me through the planning process, and these weddings are the ones where the full realm of our creative juices get to work. For most OAK Weddings, our OAK team takes the reigns with wedding planning, locating vendors, creating schedules, styling the “look” and executing the day - the tasks most wedding planners assist with. BUT, when you book an OAK Wedding, we don’t stop there. We create innovative, organic floral design in house; we have a warehouse full of décor and linens; we have a full catering staff in house; we have a graphic designer who designs our original stationary; we have a baker who works just for us; we have a large staff who has been trained in wedding day set up/tear down and production. . . when we say WE produce your wedding, we mean WE produce your wedding. There are times, of course, when we outsource vendors, but in those cases, we have a select group we will work with, all of whom know our style and expectations, and who are willing to work as part of the OAK team on that wedding day.

Along with obsessing over every detail of your wedding day, we also understand that our connection with you, your wedding party and your family ON your wedding day is imperative to our success. Because of this, we have wedding directors assigned to each OAK bride who not only direct the rehearsal, ceremony and reception, but who also assist the family through the day with photos, answer questions, find safety pins, etc. All those little things that are bound to occur. Because we have one primary “wedding planner” and floral designer (me), I am able to oversee the details, set up, and overall production of each event, while our directors are focused on YOU. If there is ever a problem or a question from a vendor, your director will not have to leave your side to handle it. . . And our team? It’s led by a professional interior designer who has had extensive study in color theory, textiles, styling, layout and more. And our floral design team has been trained by the country’s BEST -( Both Amy Osaba and Holly Chapple. )

IMG_5426.jpg

The other way we aim to make a difference is through our relationship with our brides through the entire process. We “know that we know” the process and the assisting professionals who will best be suited to your style (musicians, photographers, etc.), and we strive to develop a relationship with our brides that builds trust. Through these relationships, we aim to take the stress off of our brides. We handle communication with all vendors, answer questions, take the lead on styling and design, and we keep you informed through it all. You show us your inspiration, and we keep you as involved as you WANT to be! We have some brides who want to “show up and love it” and others who want to be a part of every step and decision. We are happy to oblige both. We want you to walk away at the end of your wedding day with as little stress and as much joy as possible.

outdoor-mississippi-spring-wedding_0040.jpg

Finally, we aim to do all of this without completely breaking the bank. Yes, weddings are expensive. They cost thousands of dollars - even cheaper ones. But we are not aiming to see how much money we can make from each event. We are aiming to love and serve - to show you what we CAN fit within your budget. We will give as much effort to the $8,000 budget as we will the $500,000 budget.

We have been told by brides in the past that other wedding professionals have claimed that there is “no way” we could actually come through with all we promise, but, we DO. We don’t do it alone, of course. We do it through a large, well-trained, willing to serve staff who loves their job and considers each bride and wedding day a gift to be treated as such.

We know we aren’t for every bride. And that’s ok. But we also know that the brides who are OAK brides are a special group who we love on and consider to be our family for the rest of their live long days.

((We also have a la carte plans - I’d love to share those with you, too!))

Meghan + Daniel

From the beginning, Meghan knew what she wanted but also wanted to give us the freedom to create her dream wedding with very little boundaries! We are so thankful for her and for these amazing pictures from Sherri Derrick Photography to remember her day by!

Colorful, Organic Outdoor Mississippi Wedding

This amazing spring wedding in Madison, MS was one of my favorites ever. From the loose, organic florals to the gorgeous Show Me Your Mumu dresses, Kelly and Nick's day was perfect!

Kelly and Nick married on a rainy day (that ended up being perfect and rain-free) at the Bridlewood of Madison venue with a few hundred of their closest friends and family. This knockout group of vendors, along with Kelly's immaculate taste, made this wedding day one to be remembered.

Mary Kate + John Luke: A Duck Dynasty Wedding

June 27,2015- a day that will not be forgotten. Erin anad I (Bethany) are still so humbled and honored to have been a part of the wedding of John Luke Robertson & Mary Kate McEacharn, and we are SO appreciative of the support shown by our community and friends as the episode aired on tv. Wow. What an experience! We would like to share a little of the story with you guys-be warned... this may take a while to get in all the "thank yous."

We really enjoy wedding planning, especially when we have "freedom" with styling and design, so when we met with Mary Kate and her mom, Shari, and realized that what they wanted was a "beautiful and fun" wedding (however we could make that happen), we were thrilled. When we first visited the site, the Robertson's gorgeous farm, our excitement grew. Pictures cannot do justice to how amazing the space really is, and we quickly began planning some different ideas to make this wedding extra special and perfect. We just cannot thank the McEacharns and the Robertsons enough for trusting us allowing us to have this opportunity.

Fast forward many months (past the hundreds of phone calls, emails, revisions, vendor lists, contacts, more revisions, meetings.... all the behind the scenes stuff that wedding stylists & coordinators do), and we realized that we had landed the most incredible "OAK Team" ever. We looked for vendors that had personality, unique styles, talent, and a passion for their job. And, boy did we find them.

We didn't have to look far to find the floral designer for the wedding party flowers, the outdoor centerpieces, and the wedding arch! Korie Robertson gave us the name of one of their personal family friends, Amanda Jerkins, owner of Amanda Jerkins Design in Nashville, TN. Mary Kate and I worked together to created a palette that would really "wow" both in person and in pictures, and then Amanda and her team completed the tedious process of flower selection, design, and construction to make it all come to life.

A large part of this design was centered around a vintage style, mismatched seating arrangement for the wedding ceremony. It took a little bit of planning to find the perfect layout, in the perfect place on the farm, for that time of year & day. This part of the design also is what gave us the most heart attacks, as the furniture we HAD to use could only be used if there was no rain....and you guessed it...it was raining when we woke up that morning and the day carried a 100% chance of more rain. This led me to do something I RARELY do and pray that there would be NO RAIN on this wedding day, and, I kid you not people, the radar literally broke up in front of our eyes and the rain all just disappeared. Thank you God for the AMAZING day that followed.   Some of the most amazing people we met through the process were the ladies at Pursuing Eden. Kristal, Deadre, and the Pursuing Eden team were the perfect fit with our OAK wedding family. Located in Longview, TX, the ladies provided ALL (yes, ALL) 200 mismatched chairs, all of their wedding benches, quilts, a very large selection of vintage sofas, chairs, side tables, and some very enthusiastic, hard working crew members to transport it all. Even though Texas was dealt some major "blows" with rain this summer, these ladies were always encouraging and willing to provide anything "extra" we needed throughout the planning process.

After the panic of the rain on the wedding day began to subside, we got EXTRA busy setting up (we had a REALLY cooperative, amazing team of OAK employees busting their rears to help us all day & night.) While all the details were VERY important, we did have one guy in particular who helped in really LARGE ways to make the reception area beautiful. Ben Johnson, of Alpha Tent is one of our favorite tent & rental vendors, and he provided us with some GORGEOUS sailcloth tents. Because of the number of guests invited, and the means of transportation necessary to move all guests from the parking area to the wedding site, we set up a "pre-ceremony" tent full of food, fames, and even a mariachi band (a surprise from Willie to Mary Kate & John Luke.) The tent had clear sides, a sailcloth top and was air conditioned. A LOT of very hard work went into this construction (thanks Ben!!!). Along with that, we had a couple of 20x20 tents and a 20x30 tent for "lounge areas" in the reception, all provided by Alpha Tent. One reason we love sailcloth is the way it reflects light at night. Even though we don't have a great picture, the large tent was incredible at night and provided a neat "glow" to set off the reception site. (The X back chairs are also a rental from them!)

Really with any wedding day, the hours between 7:00 am (or earlier) and ___ (fill in start time) take about 20 minutes to complete. Pretty much, we wake up, start working, and BAM, it's wedding time before we know it. This day was no different. The tents were up, the furniture was placed, and all of the vendors were arriving, looking to us for direction. It's SO. MUCH. FUN. every time.   As previously mentioned, we had to "bus in" the guests from a "parking" location to the site (because there is no parking on site) and this created a challenge that was a little new to us. We had the guest list, RSVPs, and the amount of time it took to bus X number of people in each but from point A to point B... We assigned all guests an "arrival time" (which they, like troopers, stuck to) and location. BUT, as with any event (especially ones with 800+ on the guest list, being bussed in, on a tight schedule), we had to make last minute changes. Because of the weather forecast, the decision was made the night before (yes, the night before) to move the ceremony back one hour. Smart move (if the rain was coming), but that also meant Erin and I were going to be making LOTS of phone calls to guests that night to switch some arrival times!! In the end, it went off flawlessly.   The flowers in the preceremony tent (along with the tablecloths and décor) were created and styled by OAK in the selected wedding colors.   Some of the details in the tent, aside from the Mariachi Band, included some specialty cookies by OAK's favorite "cookie extraordinaire," Claudia Eichelberger of Claudia's Creative Cookies. She's a "hometown" girl and we knew she would do a FABULOUS job customizing some delicious cookies for guests to use as a conversation starters and tummy fillers. Check out her Instagram for more of her creations.

We were also able to provide some "pre-ceremony" cigars to the guests, provided by The Country Squire. This served as a precursor to the full cigar bar provided by Governor's Cigars. The Country Squire also provided cigars for the guest bags, passed out to hotel guests upon arrival.

So, we made it TO the ceremony, which was gorgeous and extremely sincere (with girls in their custom Sherri Hill dresses), and upon arrival, guests were encouraged to grab a "fan program" designed by Erica Wilkerson Stone of Erica Ashley Design (she also designed the GORGEOUS invitation sets.) They were then escorted to their choice of mismatched wooden chairs, benches, or quilts, as their seat for the wedding ceremony. The Vintage Lounge furniture was reserved for family seating.

After a beautiful ceremony officiated by Willie Robertson, Rev. Paul Lipe, & Bruce McEacharn (offering prayers during ceremony), (and directed by me and Erin!!!), the wedding guests made their way to a fun, "food truck" style wedding reception (with an OAK swing on "food trucks" using a couple of airstreams) while the family took pictures. The wedding photographer for the day was Three Nails Photography. The amazing videographer was Max Zhogbi.   We are fortunate to work with many great local photographers thought OAK jobs, and we knew we could us an extra hand snapping photos of our own OAK details, so we asked Brooke Wilcher of Blessed 2 Focus Photography to come along as an OAK team member! Thanks so much to both of these for their talent, time, and photos to use! Now.. ON TO THE RECEPTION!! There are so many details in their reception, that I am sure to miss something really cool.

We had to find JUST the right people to fix the reception food. Mary Kate wanted "bite sized" portions (similar to a food truck feel) and we found the right fit in Waterfront Grill . Their team prepared BBQ Shrimp and Brisket Sliders, Teriyaki Chicken Skewers with Vegetables and a Remoulade Salad. Our OAK catering team prepared Mini Chicken and Steak Tacos on a specialty "grill skillet" handmade for the event and roasted corn and peppers. The food was fantastic and everyone left with a full stomach!     The reception décor was provided by OAK and through Ben Johnson's rentals. The farmhouse tables used as guest tables were handmade for this occasion for OAK (and we will be using them for years to come). With the help of some very generous OAK employees, I constructed, painted and distressed around 100 wooden candlesticks in 3 different colors and we used battery operated candles to give a great "glow" to the outdoors.     Along with the entrees, guests had some fun options of Sno Cones (provided by John Luke and Willie's Ice Cabin ) and gourmet popcorn, provided by Farming for Humanity .

After the sun went down and guests were finishing up eating, the music started up and the dancing began. Of course, the cakes still had to be cut! We knew immediately who we wanted to invite to be the part of the OAK team that would prepare the cakes- Hailey Williams of Cups-N-Cakes, our "go-to" baker. Her talent was demonstrated through the 6 tier bridal cake with 18 smaller accent cakes in almond, strawberry, Italian cream, and some gluten free layers for Mary Kate! In lieu of a traditional groom's cake, as John Luke is allergic to chocolate, Erin, John Luke and I decided to go with a Cronut display, and Hailey willingly did some research to make that happen!

ALL OAK Weddings are special. But very rarely do the pictures from our weddings end up on our walls. This one was one of those. My little brother married the love of his life a few months ago, and I had the honor of taking part in the wedding by providing the florals and some other details at the beautiful Rosegate Venue. So, I'm a little late in posting this gorgeous wedding, but these two lovebirds are amazingly beautiful people, as were EVERY member of their wedding party. Charlotte Stringer did an incredible job capturing these images at McClain Lodge Venue. We had the extreme pleasure of creating their florals, using Christina's inspiration pics as our guides. Thank you SO much for letting us have a part in the day!

Amylynn + Tanner - OAK's Featured Couple

When we heard from Amylynn last July, our FIRST was reaction was "now THIS is an OAK bride!!" We were thrilled with her story, connected by our love for the Lord, and excited to get started. We've written about Tanner and Amylynn's story several times in the past, so this this time, I was to focus on her WEDDING DAY! Amylynn selected a palate of pinks and whites, with a request for a white bouquet. We selected a combo of gorgeous ranunculus, garden roses, astilbe and scabiosa with olive leaves for an accent. Pops of color were added to the bridesmaids bouquets with amazing double tulips and pink ranunculus.   One thing I love to do with my brides is design every element of their wedding around their desired look, so we also created custom invitations and programs with a logo designed especially for her!

Spinelli's Venue offered a beautiful backdrop for a beautiful ceremony. After walking her down the aisle, Amylynn's dad surprised the bride and groom with a song! Later, at the reception, the groom did the same! One thing is for sure, this family is FULL of unconditional, raw love and the desire to make each other happy. One request that the bride had for me was to work some cotton boles into her wedding SOMEHOW! So, we created a guest book arrangement that was full of the perfect white cotton.

The most fun part of planning weddings is looking for a way that incorporate something unique into the day. We have used caricature artists in the past, and they are always a hit with the guests! This caricature artist, from Jay Garcia Magic, came with an extra special treat. Jay Garcia came along and performed some on site magic for the guests during the cocktail hour!

While there are too many amazing photographs from Allison Jeffers to post, these show a glimpse of what turned out to be an amazing weekend. As this wedding was a destination wedding, it brought it's own challenges, but in the end, the vendors, venue and the people in Texas; as well as both families (from Hawaii, DC, and many other states!!) were delightful to work with. Regardless of WHERE a wedding is, it is all about the sacred ceremony of joining two lives before God.   We are honored to have been part of Amylynn and Tanner's wedding, and know that their "forever" will be amazing. We can't wait to see what God has in store for  them and the future they create. Much love.   -Bethany

Eden + Will

September 23, 2017 When Eden approached us about her wedding, we instantly fell in love with her ideas, her family, and her wedding location. It was a dream to work alongside them for 9 months, planning and finalizing all details, styling and creating. These weddings are ones that wedding professionals don't forget.   The vendors who worked with us were amazing, and though they probably thought more once "this lady is off her rocker," they each exceeded the expectations of their commitments and made this day perfect.
